For The Last Word, Jody reached back to a pre-Prohibition classic and made it an ëlgr must, and one for the taste makers.
A complex but balanced offering of equal parts gin, Green Chartreuse, maraschino and fresh lime - botanical, citrus and floral notes - guaranteed to get pre and post dinner conversations going.

Our Zuney Wagyu dish is one of autumn's smash hits!
Tender medium-rare slices of Zuney Wagyu, a silken smoked celeriac purée, a generous pour of red wine jus - and pops of pomegranate that cut through everything with just the right amount of tart.
Rich, considered, and exactly what this weather calls for.

Someone turned on the rain and cold but we’re not complaining - it’s perfect weather for our Lamb Rump, Tzatziki, Butterbeans and Kale dish.
We sear our marinated and sous vide Karoo lamb to order and serve it on a fennel-laced butterbean stew. Wilted kale and a dollop of tzatziki are the final high notes on this big flavour autumn dish.
To drink? We think the Nilsson family’s award winning Nilberg Merlot 2018 is the perfect partner.

Our Burrata, Broccolini, Garlic, Lemon and Almond salad is a warm and deeply satisfying dish.
We top creamy broken burrata with excellent olive oil and serve with blanched and quick-seared broccolini. Just squeezed lemon juice and lemon rind are the secret weapons here.
Toasted almonds bring buttery nuttiness and crunch to this side that stands on its own, but works with everything from Pizza to our Raw Beef and definitely any of our Pork and Fish dishes.

Fresh from our kitchen… a Bloody Mary reimagined as a moreish salad.
It’s every savoury moment we love in the iconic cocktail – with a few extra (edible) high notes. Think baby gem, celery, anchovy fillets, crispy shallots, anchovy breadcrumbs… a generous pour of olive oil plus salt and pepper.
Every mouthful a complex joy.

Slowly does it.
This yellow chartreuse is made using the same techniques and botanicals used by monks since the 18th century, every bottle a small miracle of patience and craft. We have some – for now.
You’ll find this heaven-sent and completely unique herbal liqueur in our Tipperary, which marries yellow chartreuse, sweet vermouth and Irish whiskey.
It’s a grown up drink – in the best possible way.

From the pizza oven to the pass. Meet Charlie Muyengeranwa, a vital member of team ëlgr since 2022.
“Since starting in the pizza section, Charlie has tested pretty much every role in the kitchen – together with Oldings he has been running the hot section and has shown even more skill in technique, he is someone you can always rely on in the heat of busy service,” says Jesper.
Nice work Charlie, we appreciate you!

Another one star in the Eat Out 2026 Awards!! 🌟
Our fourth, and one that means as much as the first. We are so happy that the judges see our passion and our commitment.
This one belongs to the team in our kitchen and on our floor, and to everyone who's pulled up a chair with us over the past year. We don't take any of it for granted.

“Different hubs suit different moods: there’s a streetside, light-filled front room with leather banquettes; the moodier heart of the restaurant; and a plant-filled courtyard” - Inside Guide
Thanks Inside Guide, you nailed it!
We feel that mood and food are intrinsically linked and that includes where you enjoy your dining experience.
• Dinner for two? A quieter table for two with an upfront view of the chefs in action is always a good bet.
• A festive gathering for food and wine lovers? Ask for our long dining table that embraces conviviality.
• Feel like a chilled, easy-going evening? Our courtyard is a vibe – cocktails, Neapolitan pizzas and shared plates seal the sharing deal.
Whatever your evening’s intention is… we got you 🙂

Your repeat orders, officially locked in. Dishes we love to make. Dishes you love to eat.
· Toast, Lardo, Brown Anchovies
Our original square route of love - with all the right notes of crunch and serious umami. If you’re Team Toast, we know you agree!
· Mixed Heirloom Tomato, Grilled Red Onion, Grilled Bread, Basil, Burrata (optional add-on)
A triumph of Italian flavours in each moreish mouthful. A tableside essential.
· Beetroot, Beurre Noisette Vinaigrette, Phantom Ash Goat Cheese, Pistachio
We love beetroot in many forms and this dish is a multifaceted savoury journey with a decadent uptick from our favourite goat cheese.
What’s your go to?

The city is melting. But we got you.
Head for the cool of our courtyard… and make sure to ask for one of our summertime heroes – the Watermelon, Lime and Chilli dish.
Blocks of watermelon are lightly compressed for a few hours and then dressed to thrill with lime and chilli – it’s a flavour sensation you won’t forget.
Scorcher torture relief on a plate.

If our guests were cocktails…
🔮 Moonlit Butterfly: "The one who tells everyone they’ve hit the jackpot with their choice.” Fragrant and floral with gin lemon, elderflower, cucumber and soda.
🍹 Cape Town Breeze: "The one who arrives with good energy and stays till last round." Super refreshing with limoncello, Aperol and tonic - a cool kickstarter.
🌿 Moosë & Fern: "The one who knows exactly what they want — and it's always interesting." A gin and vermouth short with attitude – loads of aromatic herbs and fragrant florals
Come choose your own cocktail to meet your mood and mirror your sparkling self!
Enjoy responsibly | 18+

Eat Out Star nominees announced!🌟
News just in – it’s our fourth consecutive year of being an Eat Out star restaurant nominee!
We’re excited, honoured, privileged and motivated by today’s announcement which puts us among some of the best restaurants and chefs in South Africa – 67 in total.
After countless late nights, many hours at the pass and working hard to bring our A-game to work every day, it’s nice to see our name in lights.
Well done team ëlgr – now back to work for you ;)

So many of you love our playlists, and this season we have had some epic tunes keeping us in the zone – here are our top picks off our Summer Soundtrack.
'Feels Like Summer' by Childish Gambino – the one that just gets it.
'Hot in the City' by Billy Idol – pure heat, zero apologies.
'A Little Respect' by Erasure – an 80s banger that never gets old.
'17 År' ('17 Years') by Veronica Maggio – our Nordic nod – we're obsessed!
'Volare' by Gypsy Kings – because every summer needs a little drama.
Our list pretty much reflects exactly what we're about at ëlgr – we love a classic, we appreciate tunes that reflect what's hot right now and always – we insist on a wild card or two for a little spice.
Share the summertime tune you think should be on our playlist!

You know we love to have a Raw Beef dish on the menu and right now, this season’s rendition is sweeping up the glowing reviews!
“The raw beef tastes like Swedish midsummer. Magic.” - Benjamin H
“…the raw beef blew my socks right off. The textures and flavours were incredible.” - Sonne G
What makes it so memorable? Obviously, the best quality, umami-laden beef served on dill and red onion yoghurt, add to that salty pops of trout roe and a generous covering of housemade potato chips for crunch – it’s extra and we love it!

Plates made for passing, flavours we know you’ll remember.
At ëlgr, we lean into cuisines from around the globe while celebrating local ingredients. We take technique seriously but we aren't culinary snobs.
Above all we want you to have a great time, to share in the joy of superb, sometimes surprising flavour combinations, to savour great wines, to say cheers to the good life and to come back again for more – for the weeknight dinners, the special celebrations and the after work charcuterie and cocktails.
Easy dining. Elevated the ëlgr way.

What people say
Ëlgr Restaurant on Kloof Street in Cape Town is a must-visit for anyone looking for a modern, casual, and multi-cultural dining experience. The restaurant's concept, created by Chef Jesper Nilsson, offers fine food, great wine, and inspiring cocktails in a relaxed environment. The menus are seasonal and change often to ensure that diners always have something new to try.
One of the standout dishes at Ëlgr Restaurant is their smoked and grilled aubergine served on creamy, sumac-laced yoghurt with pine nuts, mint, and a dusting of their house-made cumin salt. This dish perfectly showcases the versatility and flavour of this jewel-coloured vegetable that is so often used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Another dish that has become a firm favourite among diners at Ëlgr Restaurant is their limited edition Schnitzel. Made the old school way with thinly sliced prime pork breaded in seasoned flour and lightly pan-fried, this succulent schnitzel is served with freshly grated horseradish and lemon.
Overall, Ëlgr Restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience that combines delicious food with excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. It's no wonder why this restaurant has become such a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
