Did you know we now have lager and mead on tap?

Our mead on tap is Bee Bliss, 2026 bronze medal winner for mead at the African Beer Cup. It’s from Cape Town Meadery who also took silver.

Come in and have a freshly poured glass of prizewinning mead - or try a taster.

Tiny soup samples! So lucky!

We are poised to launch our winter “soups of the day” - two choices daily from 7am, prepackaged with a fresh baked roll. Think creamy tomato, French onion, leek and potato. All thick, rich and flavourful.

We’ll keep adding and taste testing more throughout the winter. It’s hard work but …

With the Cape Town Marathon 2026 just around the corner, we can see the road closure notices going up, and the longish-term forecast looking fairly decent. Here's hoping all the runners have a great race!

Liesbeek Parkway will be semi-closed for part of the day, but we hope all our regulars will come in via the M5 and Berkeley Road, and maybe wander through from the parking to Liesbeek PW to celebrate the runners as they go past!

Then back to The Bee-Stro for a breakfast, brunch or lunch to set you up for the rest of the day!

We've broken with tradition for May. Our Cake of the Month is a Tart! More precisely a delicious Lemon & White Chocolate Tart.

So far, it's been a successful experiment. It pairs well with tea, coffee or chenin. We plan to try it with Bee-Bliss, our on-tap mead next.

Why choose Eggcellent Eggs?

Because behind every tray of eggs is a collective of hands-on farmers who truly care.

At Eggcellent Eggs, we are not just packing eggs — we are building a network of like-minded, ethical farmers who believe that hens deserve to live naturally, outdoors, on real pasture.

Our hens spend their days scratching, foraging, dust bathing, roaming and soaking up the sunshine. They are moved and managed with care, giving them access to fresh pasture while allowing the land to rest and regenerate.

We work closely with every farmer in our collective to ensure the same values are carried through from farm to tray:

🌿 Hens raised on pasture
🌿 Certified Non-GMO feed
🌿 Ethical, hands-on farming
🌿 Eggs packed with care and delivered fresh

Choosing Eggcellent Eggs means choosing more than just eggs.

It means supporting farmers who are actively involved, who know their flocks, walk their fields, care for their land, and believe that good food starts with good farming.

Thank you for supporting local, ethical and pasture-based farming.

Eggcellent Eggs — from pasture to plate, with care. 🥚🌿

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Here is Lolo!

Another one who has worked all the way up, Lorenzo (affectionately know as Lolo) started at another restaurant as a sculler and worked his way up to Demi CDP in the kitchen. His passion for organisation, flavour and plating has made him an incredible asset to the kitchen (even if we do have to hide the mircoherbs sometimes). A number of his dishes have made it onto the menu and he is always experimenting and asking if he can make me something off menu to eat. His hard work made it easy to recently promote him to CDP where is thriving keeping everything organised, prep on track and orders on time. At this rate, he will be head chef in not time and I’ll be out of a job!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Dioleen (or Dee) aspires to be a diva, and she achieves it most of the time. Known as chief complainer, you would never know how hard she really works. She silently did all the ‘fairy’ work while she was a waiter, always arrived on time or early and consistently outworked her co-workers. We had originally interviewed her as a barista, but cocktails were what she was really interested in. As soon as we got our liquor license, she was keen to move into the role, even if it meant making some coffee. Shaking up a storm, she has even been researching and testing recipes for new cocktails to be added to the menu. Not afraid of hard work (but often letting you know how hard it is) she takes on every role with vigour. Hoping to grow into more managerial roles as she grows within the company, keep your eye on this rising star.

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

While building at Riverlands, my mom would tell me about this one lady. She was small, with a cheeky smile (I checked, she wasn’t seeing her reflection) and she was working as a cleaner. She let us know that once the construction ended, she wouldn’t have a job and asked if we were hiring. We were and she was hired on the spot, she joined our team as a sculler and has been scrubbing up a storm ever since. Her name is Nokuzola and the team call her Noku or more affectionately mama. Recently she has been helping out in the kitchen more and more and is looking to learn the ropes to hopefully move up. She shows us that age is just a number and she can work (and party) as hard as any of the babies in the shop!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Next up is Fefe.

Fefe’s CV struck us immediately as she had worked at the River Club, the previous occupant of the Riverlands Precinct site. She has been working at this spot longer than anyone! When we met her, she was a bit reserved but incredibly well put together with a warm smile. We hired her in our scullery department but she immediately set her sights higher, she grabbed the opportunity to do a barista course with our coffee partner Truth and began working shifts both in front and back of house. Very quickly, we knew she would fit in well as a waiter, a friendly smiling face and a gentle demeanour welcoming guests to the restaurant. She is also focusing on her ‘side-hustle’ selling clothes to get some sustainable income for herself and her family. Hopefully Fefe spends some more quality time with us here near the River!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Here is Isaac (or Zac, Zackie, Zacariah 😂)

I worked with Zac in Joburg at another restaurant and when I was thinking of people to fill out the team, he sprung immediately to mind. Starting out in scullery and working nearly every position in the business, from waiter to cashier and eventually to barista, Zac never stopped smiling. I asked if he was looking for a job and he said, I am moving to Cape Town next month, and thus our first new barista was hired! His smile has never faded, despite being far from his daughter and he is always striving to do the best for himself, the shop and his co-workers. He is pursuing other studies and is always keeping his mind fresh with information and his passion for knowledge. We are lucky to have him as part of the team, and each guest is lucky to get a sparkling smile with each cup of coffee he makes!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Next is Ocean.

Ocean was a customer before they were an employee. Just visiting their friend at work, until they admitted they were unhappy where they were working and asked if I needed a chef. In their first interview shift, they referred to their work as ‘the place I used to work’ so I think we both knew it was meant to be. They hadn’t been qualified for very long but learned super-quickly and were able to run the kitchen alone very shortly after they started. Nasiphi and Ocean made quite a good team, so I wasn’t needed as much. They have begun to take on admin roles as well as a new personal journey leading them to grow in new and exciting ways. The future looks bright for Ocean!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Next up Tina!

Fresh out of high school in 2023, Tina joined us as a waitress. Her first job, and with no experience, she took everything in her stride, learning and growing in her role. There were some hiccups along the way but we now look at Tina as the confident young woman she has become both at work and in her personal life. She is creative and caring and always has a new idea to try out with her colleagues. Aiming to study further, Tina is always adapting, growing and learning both at work and outside. It is amazing to see how far she has come and how she is able to teach those that join our team. We eagerly await to see where Tina goes in the future!

In honour of our birthday month, we have decided to highlight our bee-autiful employ-bees.

Next up Nasiphi.

Nasiphi is next on the list chronologically. Coming to us in our previous location as a student, Nasiphi seemed quiet and calm. Well, she is not. She is the most feisty, fiery and loud member of our staff. She trained with us for a year and then moved onto her next placement, always keeping in touch and visiting. She became a mom to our youngest ‘employee’ (so far she makes more mess than she cleans but we’ll get there) and came back to work with us, with a new goal in mind. She wanted to try out working in the kitchen and she has thrived! Growing fast and gaining the respect of even the most seasoned chefs, Nasiphi is taking on getting her qualification this year with our support. We can’t wait to see how far she goes.
