IN THE WILD solo exhibition
3 of Feb 2022-28 of Feb 2022
Juli Jana’s graphic work depicts her connection with nature and the wild in
both a realistic and abstract way. For her the landscape and those that inhabit it is an
expression of the wildness and the expanse of the continent of Africa with all its emotions.
She is exhibiting 7 monotypes in black and white of lions in the wild depicting their
movement and intent. At times these are stylized in the manner Rousseau. She uses a ‘wipe
out’ method in these monotypes using the black background as the backing from which the
motif is wiped into existence.
The etchings depict the movement of open stretched landscape in an abstracted manner
giving the landscape a space to breathe and establishing a simplicity within the work
juli Jana a local artist who is both a painter and a graphic artist studied in London

We are excited for our up and coming ceramics exhibition for the months of August and September at the Ladder. Our very own Ouma Esterhuizen would be elated that her gorgeous work is on display half a century after it was made, alongside Anton Esterhuizen, her son, who continues in the family tradition.

It is also an art studio that showcases the work of local artists, providing a platform for them to display their talent. The latest exhibition at The Ladder, IN THE WILD solo exhibition by Juli Jana, is a must-see for art lovers. Her monotypes in black and white of lions in the wild are both realistic and abstract, depicting their movement and intent with great skill. The etchings of open stretched landscapes are also beautifully done, giving the landscape space to breathe and establishing simplicity within the work. In addition to showcasing local art, The Ladder also offers exciting workshops where you can learn something new while having fun. For example, spend Mother's Day at The Ladder creating a fynbos vase display with Nicky Mitchell from Fabulous Fynbos or learning watercolor botanicals with Dayna Gay.
