After a six-week stint in the studios and streets of Nashville, Tennessee, Frank Freeman is back on home soil.
Fresh from debuting two new productions at the Woordfees Arts Festival in Stellenbosch, we’re excited to announce that he’ll be bringing his first-ever solo performance to our Dark Notes Tiny Concert series on Tuesday, 10 November.
Frank has been integral to the curation of this concert series and has also performed here with Arno Carstens, Laudo Liebenberg and his band VOLK.
‘This venue has become somewhat of a home game for me, says Frank. ‘It’s a beautiful space to play in with nowhere to hide for audience or artist. For this show I’II be playing material that crosses over my two languages. Those languages being Afrikaans and English. I’ve spent a lot of time in Nashville writing new material and discovering so much music. I’d like to bring a bit of that to this show along with intimate arrangements of VOLK songs!
Frank will be closing out this season Dark Notes and we can’t wait to share this night with you. It’s going to be a champion show.

We’re so excited to announce the launch of our all new websites for our sister duo The Black Sheep Restaurant and The Dark Horse Bar.
You’ll still be able to check the blackboard menus loaded daily, but you can now also book a table online, check out our Chef’s Table as well as our catering and take-out services, learn about how it all got started, and view some of the great food, drinks and vibes we love creating for you.

Italian singer-songwriter
Francesca Biancoli will be gracing our tiny stage for our next Dark Notes Tiny Concert
Series session.
Lauded for her contemporary melding of jazz and neo-soul, Biancoli’s spontaneous and non-conformist musical sound is informed by her childhood in Bari, South Italy, a multicultural seaside town famous for its Greek, Arabic, and Turkish influences.
Biancoli began her formal education in 2010 at the renowned Martini
Conservatory in Bologna, studying under musical greats such as Diana Torto, Stefano Zenni and Fabrizio Puglisi and, 2011, won the Orsara International, Nuoro Jazz and Berklee scholarships.
She has collaborated with the likes of Kevin Gibson, Shane Cooper, Nicholas Williams, Keenan Ahrends, Marlon Witbooi ,Alvin Dyers, Rus
Nerwich and Mark Fransman, and has performed at the prestigious Cape Town Jazz Festival.
And now she’s blessing The Horse - and you - with her heavenly vocals.

We’ve had some of South Africa’s biggest names at the Dark Horse Tiny Concerts
Series and this time round it’s no different.
On Tuesday 22 September, we’ll be welcoming SAMA-winning singer-songwriter Ard Matthews to our home away from home.
As the frontman and principal songwriter for Just Jinjer, Matthews gigged an arena tour with Counting Crows and saw their debut album ‘All Comes Around’ become the bestselling rock album in South African history. Since then, he’s won multiple awards and grown his solo career, releasing three critically acclaimed studio albums.
Matthews has built his reputation on sincerity, timeless melodies, and emotional honesty and we’re thrilled that he’ll be our mane attraction in September.
So saddle up and join us at The Horse on Tuesday, 22 September at 7 pm for another excellent evening of great vibes and excellent drinks.

To reach Kloof Street in Cape Town via public transport, you can take a MyCiTi bus to the Kloof Nek stop and walk down Kloof Street. Alternatively, you can use a taxi or ride-sharing service to drop you off directly on Kloof Street.
