ENTRY-LEVEL BAKING ASSISTANT / APPRENTICE WANTED – SOMERSET WEST
I’m looking for someone who enjoys baking, has basic baking skills and is eager to learn and gain practical experience in the baking and catering industry.
I’ve recently relocated to Somerset West and am busy getting my kitchen set up again ahead of the busy baking season. I’m looking for the right person to assist me with my baking business, with the potential to grow alongside my businesses.
What I’m looking for:
Basic kitchen skills and experience baking cakes, cupcakes and cookies.
Able to follow recipes and measure ingredients correctly.
Basic cake and cupcake decorating skills.
Someone who is willing to learn, take direction and follow instructions carefully.
Neat, reliable, patient and attentive to detail.
Someone who takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, tidy and organised.
Willing to wash dishes, clean work surfaces and keep the kitchen in order throughout the working day.
A positive attitude and a willingness to help wherever needed.
You don’t need to be a professional baker. This is an entry-level opportunity, and I’m happy to work with someone who has the basics and is keen to improve their skills.
A little about the position
I have my own established methods and ways of doing things, so it’s important that the right person is comfortable following instructions, learning my techniques and working according to my standards.
Keeping the kitchen clean and organised is an important part of the job. This includes washing dishes, cleaning up after baking, putting equipment and ingredients away, and ensuring the kitchen remains neat and hygienic.
The position will initially be temporary for the peak baking season, but there is potential for permanent employment if we work well together.
I also own a catering company, which offers further opportunities for the right person to gain experience and potentially grow within both businesses.
Working arrangements and pay
Location: Kitchen near Somerset Mall, Somerset West.
Ideal start date: 15 November 2026.
Hours: Flexible, as needed, depending on the baking workload. You must be available to work when required, so this would suit someone with a flexible schedule.
Starting rate: R30 per hour, paid weekly.
Room for growth: The hourly rate is not fixed permanently. There is potential for an increase as skills develop, experience is gained and the working relationship grows.
Duration: Initially temporary for the peak season, with the possibility of permanent employment.
Ideally, I’m looking for someone who lives close to Somerset Mall and can get to the kitchen without difficulty when needed.
