CHALLENGES

A solo show by

Nkoali Nawa (b.1965) started his working life in the mines of Welkom, where he grew up. Working at the coalface of this industry and having first-hand experience of it has shaped Nawa's outlook as an artist.

"Challenges" presents the viewer with ten charcoal drawings that reference identity, belonging and the painful complexity of navigating cultural differences - a candid glimpse of reality.

You can view his profound body of work at Sisonke Gallery located inside the Cape Heritage Hotel.

'You strike the women, you strike the rock'

On this day, 67 years ago, tens of thousands of women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against legislation aimed at tightening th3le apartheid government's control over the movement of black women in urban areas.

So today, we remember whose shoulders we stand on.
