Food Foraging workshop that happened last Saturday was very successful. leslie who is part of the CTFGI came along and taught us how to prepare East Asian foods that can be sourced from the garden. Lots of spring onions, my chickens organic eggs , Eggplants and of course the good old sweet potato leaves.
Thanks to PJ Riverlodge Backpackers who kindly allowed us to use his indoor/outdoor space for the cooking aspect of the day
We all were inspired and blessed x

2 weekends ago I was so grateful for the Pinelands 1st Scouts group that came and helped in the garden. They did 6 hours of community service and boy they worked hard!
They cleaned up our storm water drain , just in time for that massive storm that hit us the following week & helped sort out our old childrens garden

We have lots of people that pass through the Om garden. But once in a while you meet somebody that you have a special connection to.
Lisa is from the Netherlands and she offered to volunteer at the Om garden for a week. She helped re-organise the new nursery, w**ded the circle garden , w**ded pathways, did seed propagation, no job was an issue-- she just got on with it and had a lovely energy while keeping busy... her ear plugs in, hand held blender with special vegan recipes 😘and great conversation.
Thank you Lisa for spending time with us ###

Hop a long Harry was dumped in the om village a few mths ago. He had a broken leg n was not happy. He found his way to the om garden and we took him in and he rested up. He is now thankfully happy n managing to put weight on the leg.
He is very vocal and a delight to sit and watch.

What people say
Oude Molen Food Garden Village is a vibrant urban agricultural project that beautifully blends education, empowerment, and community spirit. At its heart lies a commitment to fostering growth—not just in plants but also in the lives of individuals and families within the community.
The initiative began with a focus on children and youth, providing them with invaluable educational opportunities that nurture their understanding of agriculture and sustainability. This dedication to learning extends to clients from the occupational therapy department of Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital and Open Circle at Alexandra Hospital, showcasing the inclusive nature of this remarkable project.
Under the guidance of Kelly Mansfield, who manages the garden and leads the Children's Programme every Wednesday, participants engage in hands-on experiences that cultivate both knowledge and skills. The garden serves as a safe haven for gatherings, where people can come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and celebrate their collective achievements.
With 20 passionate gardeners tending to their own allotments, Oude Molen Food Garden Village thrives as a community collective. Each gardener contributes their unique touch to this flourishing space, creating a tapestry of diverse plants and produce that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Cape Town.
In addition to its educational programs, Oude Molen offers integrated garden therapy sessions and community service opportunities for schools. This multifaceted approach not only enhances individual well-being but also strengthens community bonds through shared experiences in gardening.
Overall, Oude Molen Food Garden Village stands out as an inspiring example of how urban agriculture can transform lives while promoting sustainability and connection within the community.
