Right on cue! Sandviooltjie is in bloom 🌸
Like clockwork every May, the beautiful "𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗷𝗶𝗲" - 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 (𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗮) - pushes through the sandy coastal soil at Atlantic Beach and along the West Coast. It's nature's clock announcing the arrival of the cooler season and winter rains in the most colourful way.
Growing from a single, white, fleshy bulb about 10-20mm in diameter, the Sandviooltjie bring vibrant bursts of pinkish-red and magenta to our natural Strandveld biodiversity. They thrive in deep sandy soils, or well-drained coastal flats, which allows their bulbs to remain dry below ground during summer dormancy.
This little treasure is one we’re proud to protect as part of our Estate’s unique biodiversity.
These delicate winter bulbs may appear soft from afar, but a closer look reveals their beautifully dense red speckling. Growing between 6 - 24cm in height they can be found blooming individually or in colourful little clusters.
Sandviooltjie is listed on SANBI Red List of South African Plants (Least Concern). At Atlantic Beach we take seriously our responsibility and commitment to 'protect and respect' our unique biodiversity. Even during winter the Strandviooltjie is a reminder as to why this matters 🌸

Across the Western Cape, the heavy storms have brought challenges for so many. But sometimes, after the storm, nature paints across the sky a reminder that brighter days lie ahead 🌈
As the clouds cleared and the sun broke through this evening, this spectacular full rainbow appeared. A moment to pause and say thank to all in our community who have assisted those affected by the storms.

Our Amazeballs bucket is FULL 🙌🎾
That means hundreds of used padel & tennis balls are on their way to being upcycled and transformed into playgrounds, soccer fields, décor products and meaningful community impact across South Africa.

**Travel Directions to Fairway Drive, Melkbosstrand**
**By Car:**
1. Start on the N1 highway heading towards Cape Town.
2. Take the exit for the N7 North toward Malmesbury.
3. Continue on the N7 for approximately 20 km.
4. Take the exit for R27 (West Coast Road) toward Table View/Melkbosstrand.
5. Follow R27 for about 10 km, then turn left onto Melkbosstrand Road.
6. Continue straight until you reach Fairway Drive; turn right to access your destination.
**Parking:** There is ample parking available in the area, including designated parking lots and street parking.
**By Public Transport:**
1. From Cape Town city center, take a MyCiTi bus from any of the main bus stops heading towards Table View.
2. Get off at the Table View station and transfer to a bus that goes to Melkbosstrand (Route 220).
3. Once you arrive in Melkbosstrand, you can either walk or take a local taxi service to Fairway Drive.
