ENVIRONEERING- CAPE PENINSULA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (CPUT)- EXCURSION- 22 October 2026
Environeering was tasked by CPUT to take their 4th Year Environmental Health students on an excursion to the Groot Constantia W**e Estate, in order to give them a lecture and practical on Health and Safety Risk Assessments in the Workplace.
The Lecture and Practical was presented by our Brent Lawrence. They have also received an assignment to create their own Workplace Risk Assessments which will be evaluated by Environeering and will also go towards their year end marks.
And because students are always hungry, we arranged some snacks and drinks for them.
We would like to once again thank Wendy and Jean of Groot Constantia for allowing us to do this excursion with the students on their premises. This is our 6th year doing the practical and the students have learnt so much through the w**e farm's processes.
It's always an honor passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation of Environmental Health Practitioners.
We would also like to thank Dr. Roslynn Baaitjies, the CPUT Occupational Health and Safety Lecturer, for allowing Environeering to guest lecture her students for the past six years. Thank you to our Beverley Kannemeyer for arranging the food, and to Maurice De Waal for assisting us with the excursion.

Health and Safety Representative Training
Environeering's Brent Lawrence is giving Health and Safety Representative Training to hotel staff today.
By law, every company that has more than 20 staff working for them, should train a Health and Safety Representative, and then more in accordance to how many staff there are on the premises.

AI might not be 100% accurate:
Over the past few months I've been receiving enquiries from our clients about Health and Safety Requirements for their workplaces that seemed foreign to me. The first thing I ask them is where did they get their info from, and a large percentage of them said its from AI.
Most of these enquiries were things I've never came across in my 20+ years experience in this field. Before giving them feedback I always make sure I run this by my government contacts (not mentioning my client's name ofcourse), they have also confirmed that some of the items they've never heard about, thus its not a requirement for compliance in South Africa.
My guess is that sometimes AI imports laws from other countries by mistake and make it seem as its SA law. This can be dangerous as a Health and Safety Service Provider as you might be giving inaccurate information to your clients.
This can mount up to unnecessary costs for your clients, which could result in reputational damage for yourself and your company.
My recommendation is to first run these enquiries pass your local government institutions like the Department of Labour or Health inspectors to make sure its actual laws and regulations. While Im not discrediting the benefits of AI, research should still be done into the mandatory laws of your country.
