20 Years of Origin. ☕✨🖤
This year we’re celebrating two decades of coffee and community.
From the producers we partner with to the communities we serve, every cup has always been part of something bigger.
As one of South Africa’s first artisan roasters, we set out to raise the standard of coffee and we’ve never stopped.
Thousands of single origins explored.
A generation of baristas trained.
Countless national Barista Championship titles earned.
And through it all, it has always been about the people behind the cup.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
Keep an eye on our socials, the celebrations are just getting started.

We know you love coming to our Café and spending your hours on our banquettes enjoying speciality coffees, but for now we are undergoing construction to make your beloved second home even better!
WE ARE STILL OPEN
Please excuse the noise and sit in our dedicated upstairs area to escape right back to your lounging days.
They say change is as good as a holiday.
Come and see what we are up to and grab your favourite single origin whilst you are at it.

Another amazing, limited reserve release from Elkin Guzman of Finca El Mirador in Colombia (hope your Spanish is good!).
This lot is a natural, fermented with a starter created from the 60hr fermentation of ripe coffee cherries with locally-picked, fresh strawberries. This inoculates a 270hr anaerobic fermentation, then the coffee is carefully dried in a thin layer followed by normal sun-drying.

Update: Due to the unknowns with the transport situation, and to protect the safety of our staff, on Tuesday 8 August we will be running our De Waterkant Cafe for takeaway coffees and beans only.
You are welcome to order at the hatch or sit down, but all service will be at the counter only. The kitchen will be closed. We will have some croissants for those who get here first.
Thanks to our team members who are nearby or able to get here safely - to make sure you can get your caffeine fix (Jose, Hayley, Fikile).
Apologies for any inconvenience and we will keep you updated re: Wednesday.

Our team have been extraordinarily dedicated in trying to operate as best we can during these transport disruptions. We trust you can understand that we are doing our best to serve you.
The current situation is resulting in extremely long or impossible commutes for many of our staff, so we will be running short hours on Mon, Tue & Wed this week, at which point we hope the unrest has ended.
7am - 8am - Coffee and grab & go food orders at the counter. Feel free to sit but there will be no table service.
8am-2pm - Kitchen open and floor service normal (as best we can)
2pm-3pm - Coffee & grab & go orders at the counter.
Thank you for your understanding.

Jorge and I sat together over a coffee in the early days and talked about our kids being behind the bar...
Next photo - 4 longstanding Origin team members. Their 4 kids all working at HQ together with their parents. Who would have believed it. 17.5 years later.
Next shoot, we get as many of the kids of the Origin team as we can get in the same place at the same time. Watch this space.

What people say
Origin Coffee Roasting, located on Hudson Street in Cape Town, is a coffee shop that has been serving exceptional quality roasted coffee since 2006. The founder, Joel Singer, had a vision to offer South Africans the finest coffee from around the world and this pursuit continues to this day.
What sets Origin apart is their ethical and sustainable sourcing model which allows them to source the world's finest coffee beans from some of the leading quality coffee farmers. All of their green beans are grown, harvested and processed by growers who have been selected for their immense passion and dedication to quality.
At Origin Coffee Roasting, they focus on ensuring they have the widest selection of single origin coffees in South Africa. Their artisan roasting process differs from commercial roasting as it is never done to a set formula. The skills of the roaster are essential in revealing the unique character of each coffee. They devote themselves to a relentless process of experimentation to unlock the full potential of what their farmers would want them to achieve.
If you're passionate about specialty coffee, then Origin Coffee Roasting is definitely worth a visit. They pour only the finest coffee and offer an unparalleled experience for all coffee lovers out there.
