Celebrating 60 years of Dennegeur!

This year marks a significant milestone for Dennegeur Farms as the business celebrates 60 years of growth, dedication and achievement in South Africa’s pome fruit industry.

Rooted in the Elgin Valley, Dennegeur’s story is one of generations of the Beukes family building on a legacy of fruit production, strong relationships and a commitment to quality. Over the years, the business has grown and evolved, while remaining firmly grounded in its family values and the people who contribute to its success.

As a longstanding partner of Dennegeur, Capespan is proud to share in this milestone. Our relationship reflects the value of enduring partnerships and a shared commitment to bringing quality South African apples and pears to markets around the world.

We congratulate the Beukes family, management and the entire Dennegeur team on 60 remarkable years. Thank you for the journey we have shared, and we wish you continued success in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Dennegeur!

Herman Redelinghuys, Head of Grapes at Capespan South Africa, reports from Aussenkehr, Namibia, overlooking a valley that will soon be transformed as the table grape harvest and packing season gets underway.

At Namibia Grape Company (NGC), Capespan’s grape partner in the region, months of hard work by production teams are now coming together as preparations intensify for the weeks ahead.

While rising input costs continue to place pressure on the industry, there is reason for optimism, with a promising crop developing for Capespan’s global partners.

We wish all growers, production teams and exporters a successful season ahead.

Capespan's grape team on the ground in Brazil!

Anderson Lombard and Christiaan Beukes recently visited growers in Petrolina, Brazil, connecting with local partners during a busy period in the region's table grape season.

With harvesting and packing activities well underway, the visits provided an opportunity to engage directly with growers, observe developments in the vineyards and gain first-hand insight into the region's production activities.

Visits included Rancagua Fruit and Cappellaro Farms, where the team spent time with Adolfo Droguett and Arnaldo Cappellaro.

Maintaining close relationships with our international grower partners remains an important part of Capespan's global fresh produce operations.

GRAPE NEWS | WEEK 42 | 2026/27 TABLE GRAPE SEASON

The 2026/27 table grape season is approaching, with encouraging early indications from production regions across Namibia and South Africa. Crop development is progressing ahead of last season in several growing areas, pointing towards an earlier start to the harvest.

Here's an overview of developments across the regions:

📍 NAMIBIA | Namibia Grape Company
* Early varieties, including ARRA Passion Star™ (ARRATHIRTEEN), Early Sweet™, RUBY RUSH™ (Sugrafiftythree) and Flame, are developing approximately 10–14 days ahead of last season.
* Mid-season varieties are also progressing around seven days earlier.
* Following the unusual rainfall experienced between Weeks 37 and 39, fruit remains healthy, with good colour development and predominantly large to extra-large berry sizes.

📍 ORANGE RIVER
* Early varieties such as RUBY RUSH™ (Sugrafiftythree) and Early Sweet™ are currently five to seven days ahead of last season.
* Prime is expected to begin softening in the earlier production areas during Week 43, with harvesting anticipated from late Week 45 or Week 46.
* Black varieties, including Midnight Beauty™ and Sable Seedless®, are progressing according to their usual seasonal timing, with harvesting expected around Weeks 50–51.
* Timpson™ is showing particularly early development, approximately 14 days ahead of last season.

📍 WESTERN CAPE
The Western Cape's production regions are also showing encouraging progress, with varying degrees of advancement across the growing areas.
* Olifants River – Currently the earliest region in the Western Cape, with some varieties developing up to three weeks ahead of last season.
* Early Berg River – Development is approximately 10 days ahead on average, with early varieties such as Early Sweet™ and RUBY RUSH™ (Sugrafiftythree) showing an advancement of around 14 days.
* Hex River Valley – Early varieties are progressing approximately 14–20 days ahead of last season, with harvesting potentially commencing from Week 51.

🍇 Overall, the season is showing an earlier progression in crop development across most production regions, with the first packing activities expected to begin in Namibia in the coming weeks.

Teams competed in soccer, netball, tug-of-war and cross country, with some excellent results across the different events:

•Soccer: 1st Norriseep | 2nd Noudonsies | 3rd Arendsnes

•Netball: 1st Groot Patrysvlei | 2nd Valam | 3rd Penhill

•Tug-of-war: 1st Valam | 2nd Groot Patrysvlei

Sport, teamwork and community spirit were once again at the centre of the annual Aussenkehr Sports Tournament, hosted by Namibia Grape Company (NGC).

Capespan has supported the tournament since 2008, with funding made available through the NGC Social Development Trust. The event is open to teams from fruit farms across Aussenkehr, as well as other teams from the wider //Kharas Region, bringing the community together through friendly competition and shared participation.

The 2026 tournament took place over two weekends, with the final matches held from 25–27 September. NGC was well represented across several disciplines, with the tug-of-war team finishing second overall and the netball team placing eighth.

The programme also included 35 km and 10 km road races, as well as a special masters soccer match featuring older players who were part of the tournament in its early years and no longer play competitively.

A particular highlight was the final soccer match, where the NGC team secured victory to finish first in the tournament.

Some rainy weather added an unexpected challenge to the final weekend, with the last matches only able to take place late on Sunday. Despite the conditions, the enthusiasm remained high, with strong camaraderie between the players, organisers and coordinators throughout the event.

Capespan is proud to remain associated with an initiative that has become an important part of the Aussenkehr community. Sport provides much more than recreation: it encourages physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, resilience, discipline and positive ways for people to spend their time together.

Thank you to everyone who organised, coordinated, participated in and supported this year’s tournament, and congratulations to all the teams who took part.
