💙 A full-circle moment for Spencer Coffee. 💙
We’re honoured to be part of a new chapter for our community in Salt River.
Our founder, K E O L A N I N A, was born and raised in Salt River and has always wanted to see the neighbourhood recognised for more than its industrial roots. Beyond the factories and warehouses, tucked between Observatory and Woodstock, lies a community rich in history, heritage and stories worth telling.
District Six was taken from so many, but Salt River remains a place where history, culture and community continue to live on. We believe it deserves to be recognised not just as a place people work in, but as a destination worth stopping for, exploring and celebrating.
When we started Spencer Coffee, our dream was simple: to serve great coffee to the streets that raised us, create a space for our family to connect, and share the story of Salt River through the little hole in the wall on Spencer Street.
We never imagined it would grow into something bigger than that.
Today, we’re incredibly grateful to be part of what’s next for our community. None of this would be possible without the love and support you’ve shown along the way.
Thank you for being part of our story. This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Spencer Coffee and the people of Salt River. ☕💙

Some of the best coffee in South Africa is being roasted quietly in small spaces by people who simply love the craft.
UpperRoom Coffee started with a 200g sample roaster in an upstairs room at home, driven by curiosity, passion, and a desire to share exceptional specialty coffee. Today, they’ve been recognised as South Africa’s Best New Roastery 2025 a testament to their dedication to quality and the community they’ve built around coffee.
From 1 July, we’re proud to be one of the first coffee spaces to be pouring their special Omni Blend at Spencer for a limited time, while stocks last.
We want to give everyone who’s been asking where they can taste their beans the opportunity to finally experience them by the cup at Spencer.
If you fall in love with what you’re drinking, you can also purchase their blends and single-origin coffees in store or online where we house a curated selection South Africa’s best Specialty coffee.

Designed by local artist and Spencer regular Ralph Borland in his Woodstock studio. Enjoy great coffee while you explore, play and experiment with one of five sets in a range of colours.

The Spencer community is growing beyond anything we imagined and we feel the love. 💙🚀☕️
Thank you for showing up, supporting us and building this space with us.
The past few months? We played hard. We worked hard. And we ticked off some big milestones. Here are a few highlights so far:
• We hosted the Heritage Tour with the first of many, sharing the roots and stories of Salt River that mean so much to us.
• Dialled in with our roasting partners (just up the road in Woodstock).
• 3D printed up a storm with .factory bringing innovative merch and accessories to life.
• Initiated a park clean-up at Spencer Park alongside with exciting plans ahead for this green space.
• Held special coffee dates with old friends, new faces and a few furry visitors.
• Unboxed the highly anticipated Spencer x XOX Toy now playable in-store.
• Teased and tested our very own Spencer coffee beans… officially launching this month. ☕️
• And we’ve joined to reward our loyal Spencer community download the app and check it out.
