🍷 Meet The Brigadier Pinot Noir
A w**e with a special place in The Wild Fig story. The Brigadier was the brainchild of Clive Nel and w**emaker James McKenzie, with its maiden vintage released in 2012. Originally made simply for private enjoyment, demand soon meant that a little more had to be produced!
From just 300 bottles in 2014, production settled at a very limited 1,200 bottles a year — making The Brigadier a true boutique Pinot Noir, found at only a select few restaurants.
Clive Nel was a much-loved Wild Fig customer, and today his son Dave Nel, owner of **es, continues that special family connection with The Fig, supplying us with many of the delicious w**es we love to pour.
Limited. Special. And very much worth discovering. 🍷

What people say
The Wild Fig Restaurant, located on Liesbeek Avenue in Cape Town, has received mixed reviews from various sources. According to a recent review in the Cape Times newspaper, the restaurant offers a "rustic and charming" atmosphere with "friendly and attentive" service. However, the food was described as "underwhelming" and "lacking in flavor". The review is dated October 2021.
A review in Eat Out magazine from September 2021 praised the restaurant's "beautiful setting" and "impressive wine list". However, the food was again criticized for being "average" and not living up to its potential. The reviewer also noted that the prices were on the high side for what was offered.
Online reviews of The Wild Fig Restaurant are similarly mixed. On TripAdvisor, some customers have raved about their experiences, calling it a "hidden gem" with "delicious food" and a "relaxing atmosphere". Others have been less impressed, citing issues with slow service or overcooked dishes.
One customer commented on Zomato that they had a great experience at The Wild Fig Restaurant, saying that they enjoyed the "lovely ambiance", friendly staff, and delicious food. Another customer complained about poor service and long wait times for their meal.
Overall, it seems that The Wild Fig Restaurant has some strengths but also some areas where it could improve. While many reviewers appreciate the ambiance and setting of the restaurant, there are consistent criticisms of the quality of the food. It may be worth checking out for those looking for a unique dining experience in Cape Town but should be aware of potential shortcomings in certain areas.
