Mash Trio Celebrates International Jazz Day Live at The Athletic Club and Social, Cape Town
On 30 April 2026, pianist and composer Dr Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane is joined by bassist Dalisu Ndlazi and drummer Riley Giandhari, the trio marks the global celebration with a night of original music rooted in South African jazz and African sonic traditions, and musical connection that only years of shared playing can produce.
Rooted in rich African sonic traditions and guided by the trio’s musical connection, Mash Trio’s live set moves between musicking, groove, and improvisation. The evening will draw from Mashiloane’s most loved compositions spanning 2016 to 2025, alongside spontaneous moments that can only happen in real time. All shaped by home, memory, and the power of commonly understood musical meanings and shared experiences.
“International Jazz Day is about honouring a tradition that has always belonged to the people. For us, that means bringing the sound of home, the rhythms, the stories, the feeling of togetherness, into the room and letting it breathe.” Says Mashiloane,
“When Dalisu, Riley and I play together, something happens that we can’t plan for. That’s what makes it worth being in the room. Come expecting music that stays with you for long after you leave.”

KwaNongoma is a collaboration project between saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane and vocalist Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini. They return to Cape Town for KwaNongoma Part 2 , exploring a wider pallet of sounds that incorporate both acoustic and electronic elements in their repertoire.

The group will present an intimate trio set at our sister venue The Trade Bar and Social featuring: Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini (vocals) Linda Sikhakhane (saxophone) and Zibusiso Makhathini (piano).

The bandstand on the evening will open space for reinforcing shared understandings and commemorative forms of communal practices. You don’t want to miss this, see you there! 🚀♥️ https://www.quicket.co.za/events/367295-linda-sikhakhane-paras-sibalukhulu-dlamini-kwa-nongomapart-2/

My Culinary Journey - Chef Law.

I grew up in a warm, close-knit family where my grandmother ruled the kitchen. I was always by her side as she cooked big batches of our favourites—beef stew, fish stew, veggies with peanut butter, and pap. Her passion sparked my own. Even though I loved athletics in school, I later realised cooking was my true calling.

At 18, life in our rural home pushed me to start cooking seriously. My grandmother had already taught me traditional African cuisine, and when I moved to Mutare, I worked in a small canteen making dishes I knew well. The chefs there exposed me to new techniques, and I absorbed everything.

One day, the owner of Baker’s Inn noticed my potential and offered to train me. By day two, I surprised the whole team. They called me a commis chef—my first step into the culinary world. Within five months, I became head pizza chef. I worked hard, saved money through a side hustle, and set my sights on South Africa.

I arrived in SA in 2013 with no job, but plenty of ambition. Cooking shows—especially Gordon Ramsay and his daughter Tilly—inspired me so much that I later named my own daughter after her.

My first job was at Casa Pasta & Pizza at the V&A Waterfront. When it closed, I joined Vantia’s Indian Cuisine, learned authentic Indian cooking, and became sous chef at just 23. My brother joined me in the kitchen, and today he’s a chef too—something I’m proud of.

Later, I worked at The Roundhouse, serving up to 1,000 guests a day. I started as head pizza chef, then became head sous chef and pastry chef, learning high-end French cuisine.

In 2017, I became head chef at La Petite Patate, then moved to The Athletic Club & Social, where Athos Euripidou mentored me in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. I eventually became executive head chef at A.C.S.

Today, I cook with passion, visit organic farms, learn every day, and hope to inspire others—just as my grandmother inspired me in that small rural kitchen where it all began.
